Chihi facing 6 months out with knee injury

COLOGNE, Germany (AP) — Cologne says striker Adil Chihi needs surgery aftersustaining a serious knee injury during Saturday’s 5-0 loss to BorussiaDortmund. The Bundesliga side says on its website that Chihi tore a cruciate ligamentin his left knee and will undergo an operation in the “coming days.” The 23-year-old Chihi went off in the 58th minute of Saturday’s game. Chihi is likely to be ruled out for around six months.

Schalke has confirmed the signing of former Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand on a one-year deal. The 32-year-old passed a medical on Friday and will contest for the No. 1 shirt with Lars Unnerstall and Mathias Schober after Ralf Fahrmann was ruled out for three months earlier this week with a serious knee injury.
